Waste activated sludge, with polymers added to separate the sludge from the water, is pumped to the gravity belt thickener. The water drains through the porous belt, while the thickened sludge is collected from the top and pumped to storage tanks. The gravity belt thickeners process about 0.6 millions gallons of waste activated sludge per day.
